Cannot boot MacBook 2010 from USB stick

I cannot boot MacBook 2010 from USB stick: I see three items: the SSD and two orange EFI items. It doesn't matter which one I select: the boot process stops with only displaying one underscore character at the upper left part of the screen.
FTR: I've succesfully test Mint, MX (KDE and XFCE) on this not so young MacBook. I used the same Intenso USB stick for all Linux versions.

What about waiting for the black screen more longer?

I have a 11-inch MacBook Air 2010 with OS 8 Early Access. It displays the black screen with a single underscore about for 3 minutes when powered on, which it looks as if the boot process stops. However, it then shows the login screen eventually.
